Session Description

​The aim of our cooking sessions is to promote nutritious, from scratch cooking, teaching the children how to take a handful of fresh, healthy ingredients and confidently turn them into a tasty meal. Over the weeks, we will create a range of sweet and savoury foods, exploring a number of traditional cuisines from home and around the world that the children can then take home with them at the end of the session. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn the following skills: Food safety and hygiene Food harvesting  Basic nutrition Reading and following recipes  How to adjust a recipe for different portion sizes How to accurately weigh out ingredients  Health and safety within the kitchen Knife skills including chopping, dicing, slicing, julienne and mincing Preserving Food (freezing, dehydrating, canning) Tidying away and washing up ​ At the beginning of each session, we will harvest any foods needed for our recipe from our onsite vegetable garden. The children will then work either in small groups or as a whole group to make a tasty, nutritious recipe each week which they will all get to sample and take home with them if they wish. Working in this manner will promote communication and teamwork as well as fostering a passion for food and cooking within the kitchen that will last a lifetime.
