Roots Community Kitchen

Roots to the Future are proud to announce the most monumental project that we have taken on so far. This project will change the way in which people within communities work together! Our tutors at Roots to the Future are going to be passing on their knowledge and wisdom across the board, from a huge array of selected skills. Our tutors are all skilled in different crafts, most of which have progressed from hobbies, then into jobs, and moving forwards into passions within their lives. We are very much focused on passing these skills onto future generations.

This project is going to encompass not only the home education community, but also the adults in the local community, and the children in the area who are in mainstream settings unable to access practical education. There is a direct need in society right now, with the majority of children unable to fix things such bike tyres when a puncture is present, or put up a shelf, or infact do any of the things that we used to do ourselves as children.

We as an organisation are extremely passionate about passing our skills onto the future generations so that these practical skills do not disappear. We are therefore very proud to announce that we will be building a community outdoor kitchen alongside a pop up restaurant named Roots Community Kitchen for the end of summer 2023. This project will be worked on in the week days by the home education community, within in the evenings by the adults in the area, and at weekends by parents and children who would like to come and participate.

Once these courses have been completed we will have built a fully functional outdoor kitchen with shelter and a dining area for the restaurant guests when they visit. We will be looking to complete the process and open the restaurant within the first week of September!

We envisage that this project will create a strong and tightly knit bond between all in the local area, bringing people young and old together to work as a team as we did in the days of old. â€‹

Such an incredible day yesterday with Roots to the Future on their incredible foraging course!

From foraging in the hedgerows and woodland to learning how to safely identify and prepare a range of delicious treats that nature has to offer - we all completely loved it and would certainly recommend one of their brilliant courses!
